  The major change in the software design can be found in an inquisitive choice that players must make initially in the game: whether or not to opt for the old AI as an enemy or to go for the new AI, an updated version designed exactly for the Definitive Edition release.

Pathfinding and handling large militaries are also improved, with instinctive pathfinding coming into its own, so you can walk along without any pain while intensifying your empire.
